Coppa Agostoni: Paul Lapeira raises his arms
"I'm really happy with this win. I felt I had very good legs today, following the right move with a little over 100km to go, which put me in the group to play for the victory. But the six-rider breakaway had to stay together on the final climb if I wanted to have my chance. I tried to dissuade the other riders in the group from attacking and I held on, because I knew I was the fastest in a sprint. I then launched my sprint from a long way out. I was watching my rivals and, as nobody was attacking, I saw there was an opportunity. I felt strong and I'm pleased it paid off all the way to the line.
We still have good chances of more results to come in Italy with the Coppa Bernocchi and the Tre Valli Varesine."
This is Paul Lapeira's 9th victory in the team's colors, and his 2nd this season. Before beating the World Champion at the 2026 Coppa Agostoni, the former French Champion had won the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes earlier this year.
News: Top 10 for Léo Bisiaux (European Championships), Rasmus Søjberg Pedersen 4th (Tour de Vendée)
At the European Championships in Slovenia, Léo Bisiaux secured a top 10 (9th) and finished as the first Frenchman, in a hard-fought race of attrition. Decided in a bunch sprint, victory at the Tour de Vendée narrowly eluded Denmark's Rasmus Søjberg Pedersen, who finished 4th, just off the podium.
